From architecture to graphic design to jewelry design and art education, Stephen has spent his life pursuing design excellence.

Stephen got started in design as an on-air graphics artist for a local PBS station. Following a degree in architecture, he went on to work for an exhibit design firm before moving into website design where he became the Creative Director.

Stephen continued his pursuit in the design world with additional degrees in art education and a fine arts degree in metals (jewelry design and fabrication techniques).

Stephen teaches his craft through workshops as well as creating the pieces he sells to the public. Stephen’s jewelry has been exhibited in galleries, featured on social media and in print.

From concept design, custom design, casting, fabrication, enameling, stone setting, jewelry repair, jewelry re-design, and now permanent jewelry. Stephen (S.W. Metalsmith) takes pride in providing high-quality jewelry hand crafted in North Carolina.
